Sea of Pink
I heard a story on the news last night I have to share. I was just in awe of humanity because we so often only hear the negative events in our world. It was a story about a high school student in Cambridge, Nova Scotia who wore what was perceived as the wrong color, a pink polo shirt, to school. Well a couple people in the school saw this boy being bullied for his choice and decided to take some seriously creative and human action. I was emotional because we all have likely experienced some form of bullying or discrimination. I certainly have. Robert M. in elementary school and Clinton W. in high school both made my life hell. But that was then and I am me because those jerks and everyone else, good and negative influenced me and I would not change a thing. Well perhaps I would have wished for a louder and stronger voice….hehe Well, bravo to these young men who inspired the Sea of Pink. They set out to say they were not going to take this in their school and that those who also were in agreement could make a choice and wear pink too. The boy who was bullied apparently was a little shocked when he went to school and saw all these students, boys and girls, wearing pink in support of a safe and bully-free environment. Bravo David Shepherd and Travis Price for your integrity and compassion. Thank you for people like this. It made my night and I am still glowing this morning. Had to share.
I really had some interesting music in the mix yesterday. Yep, Aqua just made me smile so hard it hurt and “I’m in a Hurry” by Alabama just made me MOVE. Not a country music fan, but I LOVE that song. I had 2 fast and fabulous walks. Great weight routine too.
Life is good my buddies. I use to not really like pink, but I think I have found the love. This weekend when I am in Banff, I plan to find a pink T-shirt. My mother would fall over shocked….hehe The weekend is not looking so bleak after all.
Off to workout. Have a fabulous day. *hugs*

P.S.: I changed the names to initials of those guys in my school. I felt like a bully! *sigh* Having a conscious bites. lol
Jennifer I can so relate with you with the bullying my son had a hell of a year last year it was more then hell he came home crying everyday he at one point came home and said he was ready to go to heaven cause he was tired of 2 boys bullying him he had a teacher that of course believed the bullying boys so double whammy there and eventually the dr had to put him on zoloft. what sucks is I substituted A LOT thru the school system I talked to the principal of his school and told her I thought our schools was suppose to be a no bullying zone and she just laughed it off she said you know that can never happen. Well this year we have put him in a private school because he was horrified to think he had to go back to that school now its all on faith and prayers because we dont have the money for tuition one of the reasons I MUST find a job but if it takes me flippin burgers I will so my son doesnt have to go thru hell every day. I asked him on his first day of school at the new school how it was and He said mom its so nice i dont have to worry if kyle is gonna kill me with a gun at school and as a mom i wanted to just cry I didnt realize he felt sooooo bad its sad what our kids have to go thru these days and I am afraid its just going to get worse unless there are more kids like these 2 boys to stand up and make a difference..

well sorry for the long post i hope you have an AWESOME weekend!!!
D
Jennifer,
I can’t post much as I am on the limited Internet time in the cafe in Pittsburgh. But I read your posts and support your choice to enjoy your life, share compassion with kids and older people, and have wonderful walks and workouts with a moving music.
Lots of smiles,
Tatiana
Wow! Thanks for the uplift, Jenn! The bullies of my childhood were Tommy and Mark, as well as a few girls! I remember being cornered on the playground and punched in the arms by a group of boys–just because they could. What a great response from those students! I hope they’ve set off a chain of events that transforms the world!!!

Changing the names to protect the innocent? LOL You’re such a sweetie pie! Don’t ever change.
Interesting about that story. In the school where my son goes, they have a crazy hat day where you can wear any hat you want, no matter what it looks like. They do this in a “DARE” program to teach them to dare to be different, no matter what others may think, to teach them not to give in the peer pressure. Dare to say no to drugs, dare to say no to smoking, sex, etc. I think it’s a good way to teach young grade school kids early on about what they will surely be experiencing more of as they get on into middle school and high school.
Thanks for sharing! It’s refreshing to hear some good news for a change instead of just glamorizing on bad stuff like the media is so good at.
Huggggggggggs,
Shan
LOL…. I had a twinge of that badness one feels when they do something wrong. Well nothing would be accomplished by writing their names. I think it must suck truly for bullies as well as those tormented. I HATE to make someone feel bad. So you can not go back in time, but you can make a current or future choice better. No angel on my shoulder. It just does not feel good to be negative.
Thank you everyone for your comment. Have a great day EVERYBODY
I LOVE that story!
It is so amazing when people stand up for what is right together as a group!
It brings tears to my eyes.
(And Banff is one of my favorite places. I have been there a few times, exactly at this time of year and I can imagine it at night with a full moon and a crisp breeze even now.)
I think you’re right and we have all experienced bullying. Wouldn’t you love to face those people now?!?! Back then, I couldn’t speak English and mostly I understood what they were saying by the tone of their voice. Meanies!!! Anyway, I’m glad you shared this story because I think we do need to share more positive stories to show the good in society and give us hope so….thanks for sharing!!!
