What do you call a serving of fruit or vegetables???

Well I have been doing well. Not super strict either. I am enjoying treating my body well. Nice to have a break and give my screaming bowling butt a break.

What was really strange was that I had a bit of an anxious day as I was reading yesterday. Just old thoughts in the pursuit of becoming my best me. Well David wanted to go out for a treat and I could not think what I wanted. Really, THIS is not like me at all. I just did not want. Could not think of anything. Well, we opted for an ice cream place where I had chocolate and blood orange sorbet. Yes 2 flavors. I love the taste experience….lol But it was dairy free and next time I would just get one flavor… chocolate, but I learned something. I was not eating out of stress. Not an ideal day, but I was not thinking of food to solve anything or comfort me. Heck it was not even my idea to have a treat. But because I had left some extra points for a dessert (I assumed fruit because this is all we had) it was no big deal. I went over my points only by one (25 pt day) and it was all good. It was good to give my strained muscle a bit of a break, do some reading and go out for a treat with my sweetie. What was stressful? Triggers and little arguments! I guess we just butt heads sometimes, like once a month. I know it is often because I do not express what I want to do. I just go along and then perhaps resentment builds. Ahhh learning….

Have not been getting my veggies as much as I would like, but all stocked up now. I had a high protein day (it has been a high intensity month for exercise) so having a little sugar was fine…. just not making it a habit.

What do you call a serving a fruit of vegetables???

I say a half a banana, a good half cup of grapes, a medium carrot, stuffed cup of spinach, half cup of real juice, stuffed or heaping half cup of broccoli are all a serving for me. I have been getting 6ish and I want 8-12. So, it should be better now that we went shopping. Goal is to replace one snack with veggies instead of, well other choices. I know I could have looked up what the Canadian or American health organizations call a serving, but just curious what others eat for veggies.

Since I am really becoming aware of my chewing, I feel content with just smaller portions and less food generally and this includes veggies. But I have energy and feel good. SO I guess this is most important.

Looked at my goals and I am doing all right! Off to work out and study.

Weighing in Monday…… it is about time ! Ha!

Have a great day everyone. Feed yourself like you deserve to be fed, exercise your precious body and laugh. I am making a choice to laugh at the insanity!!! *hugs*

P.S.: Love this blog and had to share!

Hmmmmmmmm… for me, a portion of fruit for me would be 1 orange or 1 apple or a 1/2 cup of berries. Nuts would be a tablespoon. Veggies would be a cup and I usually double the portion of veggies that I eat at a sitting so I get the recommended servings per day. Meats would be the size of my palm (fingers not included darn it). Milk would be one cup. Juice… don’t drink much juice but I guess is would be a swaller… LOL Cheese would be the size and thickness of a fig newton or a domino.

chew chew chew your food…. *she hums* hehe…

    Love and mucho HUGGGGGGGGGGGGS buddy,

Seriously, I am so freaking in awe of you and your veggie intake and you attitude about veggies! I have such a difficult time with it! I have to argue with myself (sometimes out loud!) and tell myself, no! that is a bad choice! pick something else! So ok, here’s my question, how in the heck do you get around to eating all those servings of veggies?!?!?! I would have to sit down and eat like twelve pounds of broccoli at once each day. I jsut don’t allot enough time, I don’t prepare, and i don’t like that many veggies. Any ideas?

Okay, I’m officially coming out here - I hate vegetables! I know! I’m a grown-up and I hate veggies. I pray everyday that I will like them because I don’t even fix them for my kids. I need to really work on this. Great job on the veggies!

My bf is picky too, and I do eat more them him, but if he can do it, I think most can.

Basically I start early with fruit usually. A serving. Then I may even have a shake with fruit and veg. Some veggies or juices work pretty well. Or just grab something appealing.

Snacks I aim for fruit or veggies (nuts/seeds maybe) and then I always aim to have a soup or salad with the next 2 meals. AIM, that is. I like veggies and have come to be this way just because they make me feel so good. I crave chocolate sometimes, well I also can crave green things sometimes…lol Strange I am sure. I am currently limiting the starchy fruits and veggies, but I love them too. SO moderation.

I am making veggie chili tonight, though I am not vegetarian. Love veggie lasagna, casseroles that usually work out (lol), extra veggies in tomato or meat sauce and roasted veggies with a little olive oil, garlic and lemon and veggies, sometimes herbs and dip yogurt or hummus types). Seriously it becomes a lifestyle if you just start small and simple.

I try to go for fresh veggies, BUT I really believe that we have to be easy on ourselves and make things doable. So I do not mind the occasional canned or frozen. In fact I always have something on hand in a pinch.

Fruit is yummy! Usually I try to have it early in the day. I like it before I exercise. But it is an anytime for me, though I am aware that I WANT TO GET TO GOAL…. so I eat in somewhat moderately. Currently I am just not eating it with protein for digestive reasons.

So, I am obsessed with veggies! But I see the difference it makes to my health. I do not feel passionately about so many things in life, but this is for sure a passion. Good health to all !
Vitamins, minerals, fiber, phytonutrients! Oh yeh!
